OUR PROJECT TO RELIEVE  WORLD HUNGER

10/26/2020

Our Key club member helped packaged thousands of meals for children in critical living environment in Honduras. Although the process was repetitive (consisting of the measuring the amount of dry ingredients and pull it in a plastic bag to seal) and lasted for hours, our members always remembered the reason for them to come and work enthusiastically.

With the pandemic still going on around the globe, we as a community contribute to the people who were affected the most by satisfying a few hours of our relax time. Although the sacrifice was small, we believe that our effort help relieve world hunger by even just a small fraction.

Thank you guys for helping out with Kids Against Hunger this past Saturday! We packaged a total of 22,986 meals which will be sent to Honduras! We couldn’t have done it without y’all! We’re so fortunate to be hosting safe and small service opportunities like these! Can’t wait to see what else we will do to help out those in need during these unprecedented times!□□

A  Great Start to the 2020-2021 School Year

10/1/2020

On September 25, 2020, our Key Club members attended the first concession stands of the school year. Concession stands have the purpose of raising money for our high school as well as giving our Key Club member more chances to interact with the Kiwanians. These concession stands require us to have food handle training which is valid for 2 years), in which to ensure the safety for everyone during the events.

This year's Covid-19 situation has brought us students into many restriction as well as less chances to meet up and interact with peers our age. Through these services that us Key Club provide for our members, we hope to reconnect people and strengthen the connections that had already been established in order to give us more courage to continue helping others through these hardships. WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!!!

Cakes and candles are overated!

Living in this world for 16 years, I notice that people tend to treat the "birthday boy/girl" with kindness. They will automatically react with a smile plus a too familiar phrase "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" to finish up the mood of the event. This reaction demonstrates that birthday has the power to connect people through the shared happiness since birthday reminds people of babies. Talking about babies, I remembered finding out that babies being cute is a revolution purpose. This means that every features that a baby posses will be considered as cute by us human, which also serve as a reproduction purpose while choosing our partner as people tend to find a person with those neoteny-retaining juvenile features into adulthood- features attractive.
Anyways, back to our main discussion: BIRTHDAY. Since birthday holds such a powerful meaning in people's heart, we should appreciate it. Us Key clubbers decided to also put in some effort by calling for donation of birthday cards and snacks. We understand that these gifts are small but we believe that any kind of gifts that people receive on this special day will have the same effect of adding up on their happiness.

First responder service project

7/6/2020

As time flows by, people's attention begins to shift to many different directions, leaving behind the old news that had broken out in the past few months. With our nature for the urge to take care of our boredom, we began to start breaking out of our comfort zone and go outside for the first time after months of self-isolation. But we could see very clearly that the scare for the epidemic is still present since restrictions of interactions with people are  limited, many would go out with a mask and gloves on.

Despite those potential risks of contracting the COVID-19, many body of workers are still going to work to serve the community. Doctors would work through many shifts including nights and days or fire-fighters would still be present in their offices in order to act on any emergencies call. They sacrifice their safety in exchange for ours. So it is our duty to show our gratitude to our first responder through our service that we deliver to them as a thank you gifts. Even if those gifts are small but it could speak with the most powerful words to people.

Each of our officers were being assigned to deliver our gifts to a specific location. The gifts are included with a poster board saying thank you and also a gift bad of snacks.

A year to remember...

   May of 2020...
The school year 2019-2020 ended among the health crisis that broke out unexpectedly. The students of our nation went through many different stages of emotions: outrage, depression, discomfort, and even disappointment.
Picture
Understanding how much loss the class of 2020 went through, our Key-Club members decided to take action and create a little gift. Although the school year ended with a feeling of incompletion and regret, with these pictures that we collected and made into a collage, we believe that this effort will communicate to them that they will be remembered and their commitment to our little community will always be appreciated.

"The memories that we created will always be powerful enough to complete what's incomplete. Let's look back at the year 2020 with an open heart: accept its flaw, embrace its uniqueness, and grasp its opportunities. Then, we will be able to let go and move on with a new chapter of our stories."

The bridge to our bright future

  Money.
   Power.
    Popularity.

As students, we worry about which college to attend in order to come closer to the "above check-list". As adults, we compete among our colleagues with the purpose of gaining as much of the "above check-list" as possible. As elders, we sleep and eat. But perhaps we forget about the people who give us that opportunity to grow into a bigger person: TEACHERS.

Teachers play a major role, after parents, in shaping students. They deliver their knowledge and experience, create opportunities, and encourage their students to take a step out of their comfort zone in order to grow. However, despite how significant their job is, the society overlooks the difficulty level of the education-deliverer's job.

Through our service that we as Key-Clubbers provided, we hope that these little gifts act as a mental booster for our educational workers and encourage them to continue their powerful job in the future. Believing in the power of these meaningful gifts, Key-Club members wanted Allen High-school staff members to understand how much they meant to us and how much of an impact that they have on us.

"Thank you so much for guiding us through our road to success. You are the gate to our future, the bridge to the new world, and the influencer of the new generation." ~Allen Key Club"

Pen pals program  with Kenya students

6/3/2020

The humankind has always had a desire to connect with someone who lives in the other sides of Earth. However, with today's technology, those needs of communication with real people weakened. Social media crowns itself to become the most popular platform that people rely on as a tool to communicate. As the result, human interaction gets shorten into a few words of caption on someone's post or a small messages in the chat section of that post that contains limited value of cultural learning and adopting.
Picture
Recognizing the harm that technologies create, our Key-Club community takes action through encouraging people to participate in a program called Pen Pals. For anyone who isn't familiar with this program, Pen Pals creates a special opportunity for people to exchange letters with strangers. This exchanging allows people to share their stories and learning new cultural values that they probably never knew the existence of. We were completely surprised to see how much people responded to our calls. The enthusiasm that people showed, left us speechless. The process, although has been delayed due to the current health crisis, brought people many different emotions: joy when receiving a new email in their inbox, surprise when recognizing many differences in their living environments, or sad when not hearing back from their partners because of the Covid-19 that stir-up many lives.

Through this experience, we realize how much people still desire for communication and interaction. However, they are blinded by that piece of technology. So, it is our responsibility as the new generation to alternate the situation and fix the problem that most people haven't realized, that they got themselves into. Happiness will always be heavier than the number of "likes" that you receive and that is our mission to define it.

A tribute to our healthcare workers

6/3/2020

Although school may be out, Key-Clubbers never stopped serving our community. Given the unpredictable circumstances of Covid-19, our members continued serving through all the chaos. During the last couple weeks of April, many key clubbers chose to pay tribute to the hardworking healthcare workers in our community. We made chalk messages and yard signs thanking all of the first responders in their efforts to relieves tensions in the community. Following government health regulations, Key-Clubbers submitted their service contributions virtually to show their support for the workers. Members wanted a safe, yet effective way to thank healthcare workers as they drove or walked by their yards full of encouraging chalk messages and yard signs.

Picture
With the purpose to support the community through this hard time, we believe that this small service that we contributed will motivate our front-lines to serve the community. We acknowledge that every small effort that we, as someone who are on the receiving end, show will relieve the society's tension as well as mental health of our front lines.
